Communications Internship Job Description

Providence General Foundation is a non-profit fundraising organization partnered with Providence Regional Medical Center Everett. The Foundation cultivates the charitable spirit of the community by raising and distributing funds to promote health and wellness primarily through the programs and services of Providence Regional Medical Center.

Internship Description
Providence General Foundation is looking for a college student or graduate with experience in communications, public relations, and/or non-profit or public administration for a short-term internship (a summer internship and a fall internship). The ideal candidate would be available a minimum of 20 hours a week, be computer literate, work well with a variety of personalities, and be flexible.

The position would be supporting the Foundation staff in their efforts to secure donor support in the areas of employee campaigns, special events, and donor communication.

Intern duties could include:
•    Processing donation forms or event reservations
•    Updating internal and external website
•    Assisting with internal displays
•    Writing articles for newsletters
•    Making presentations at department staff meetings
•    Procuring donated items for prizes or auctions
•    Writing thank you letters or making thank you phone calls
•    Assembling packets, invitations, etc.
•    Coordination of meetings, agendas, minutes
•    Assisting with mail-merge projects
•    Assisting with social media outlets (facebook, twitter)  to promote events
•    Assisting with event promotion and communication plan
•    Assisting with event communication materials

Qualifications
•    Must be currently enrolled in college or recent graduate with a 3.0 minimum GPA
•    Excellent computer skills (MS Office) and able to learn new programs quickly (databases, web content management, etc.)
•    Outstanding attention to detail
•    Strong organizational abilities
•    Practice good judgment and honor confidentiality requirements
•    Ability to operate standard office equipment (fax, photocopier, etc.)
•    Strong writing and verbal communication skills
•    Ability to juggle multiple tasks
•    Must be willing to receive a TB test, background check and attend a one-day orientation class
•    The ideal candidate would have an interest in a nonprofit career, particularly development and fundraising

Deadline for applications for the summer internship is April 16, 2010. The deadline to apply for the fall internship is July 19, 2010.
All internships at Providence Regional Medical Center are managed under the Volunteer Services Department. Volunteer requirements such as a background check, TB test, and orientation will be necessary prior to the determined start date, and any other volunteer policies or procedures will need to be followed during the duration of the internship.
