Must have an interest in a news career. You are responsible, proactive, a self-starter, have a positive attitude, and have strong communication and writing skills. You also posses the ability to follow instructions thoroughly, and are able to work well alone and in group settings. Must be enrolled in college, and able to earn college credit for entire quarter.

As an Intern for KOMO Newsradio, you’ll spend time working alongside Editors, Reporters, and Sportscasters. You’ll learn writing techniques that are unique to radio, digital audio production and editing, experience work outside the station in news and sports settings, and receive an introduction to on-air work. KOMO Newsradio is a unique setting in that its format is all-news, 24 hours a day. As an Intern, you understand that this is different from the classroom setting in that there is not constant instruction; you are responsible for gleaning what you can out of your time with KOMO Newsradio. This position requires schedule flexibility, as well as a person who can adapt to changes quickly. On a daily basis, Interns are assigned to different departments, based on that day’s needs. This means hours/workdays can vary, and can include weekends.

Send a cover letter explaining your interest in the Internship and what quarters you’re available, a resume, a sample of your writing (2-3 stories written for radio), and two letters of recommendation (one from a teacher/professor, one from a member of the business community).  Application deadline is 30 days before the quarter begins.
