The Seattle Times is seeking a 2-year Resident Producer to join our News team! This is a training and development program to prepare online journalists for positions in the industry as news producers or associate producers. Residents will spend time working in sports, news and features covering day, night and weekend shifts. They will be responsible for moving and packaging stories, headlines, photos, graphics and other content from the newsroom publishing system to the online publishing system, processing and packaging content online, reading the site for accuracy and testing components for functionality.
Applicants must have college-level journalism training or experience, online training or experience, and proficiency in both PC and Mac platforms. They also must have strong spelling and grammar skills, excellent communication skills and a grounding in First Amendment law and journalism ethics. Knowledge of web languages like HTML and experience in multimedia are strongly preferred.
We are looking for candidates who understand how news is consumed online and who are excited about learning new and better ways to interact with readers. Curiosity, passion for good journalism, attention to detail and a desire to learn and grow will help applicants stand out.
