SUMMARY OF JOB:
KOMO-TV is looking for a utility player who can succeed in multiple newsroom positions as a freelancer. We’re looking for a newscast writer/producer with solid news judgment and excellent writing skills. This person should also have experience as an assignment editor or be interested in learning the ins and outs of the desk. We prefer someone who has a flexible schedule and can be available for multiple shifts. Our newsroom is aggressive with breaking news, creative in our content and interested in compelling stories. Do not apply for this job if you have no experience writing for a major television newscast in a medium to large market.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
· Fill in as writer or producer for KOMO newscasts
· Fill in as assignment editor
· Other duties may be assigned

3-5 years of experience required
Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) preferred
Must have a minimum of one year experience writing for a television newscast in a medium to large market.
Ability to read, comprehend and analyze complex instructions, business periodicals, professional journals, financial reports and legal documents. Ability to effectively present information to top management and/or our board of directors.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions expressed in written, oral or diagram form.
While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to remain in a static position for extended periods of time and converse with and communicate with others. The team member is occasionally required to move about, handle and/or position items. The team member must occasionally transport or move up to 15 pounds. The team member must be able to identify objects and be able to communicate in writing.
Typical indoor office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
