Communications Intern Opportunity!

Coughlin Porter Lundeen seeks an intern to provide support to our marketing team. We are seeking an individual who has demonstrated writing and research skills and an interest in marketing, communications or public relations in a technical field. Primary tasks for this internship include research and written development of case studies describing project work performed by our civil and structural engineers. Secondary tasks will depend on the qualifications and interests of the successful candidate. This position requires a professional demeanor, time management skills, and a willingness to adapt in response to feedback.

This is a paid internship; compensation will be determined by the candidate’s experience. The position requires a minimum of 20 hours per week and a three-month commitment. Start and end dates are flexible per the student’s academic calendar. Work must be performed on-site. This internship provides hands-on opportunities to develop portfolio materials and exposure to writing and marketing career opportunities within the architecture and engineering industry.

Minimum Qualifications

®  Journalism or Communications B.A., minimum academic standing of junior

®  Interest in and demonstrated experience writing about science, engineering, technology, or construction

®  Proficiency with MS Office, experience with Adobe InDesign

®  Prefer experience conducting interviews for research

®  Prefer familiarity with Seattle and King County geography

Duration: Summer or Fall

Internship Duties include:

1)      Assist the marketing team in the development and implementation of their ongoing social media strategy for IRG and other outlets
2)      Assist in drafting, editing, and driving review for various company materials, including press releases and articles and reaching out to local media

3)      Help with marketing material including: flyers, brochures, newsletters, postcards ect.

4)      Represent IRG at various career fairs, fundraisers, and local community events

 

Qualifications:

1)      Excellent communication skills (written, verbal)

2)      Computer and web proficiency, including mastery of Microsoft Office Suite and basic online researching skills 
3)      Some completed coursework in the pursuit of a BA in Public Relations, Communications or Marketing 
4)      Solid organizational skills so you can successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously
5)      Familiarity with video editing is a plus

Basel Action Network (BAN)

 Overview

This internship provides a qualified candidate the opportunity to become familiar with how a nonprofit office runs, while strengthening event-planning skills. The intern will handle logistical aspects of conferences put on by BAN, events attended by BAN, and staff travel and scheduling. They will attend staff meetings to better understand nonprofit strategy and planning. In addition, they will learn about and assist with various administrative functions. There is also the opportunity to work on additional projects and tasks that can be catered to the individual’s interests, skills and career goals. This internship may involve limited travel.

Duration and Compensation

Internship starts immediately, and spans through June 2014.  Compensation is $10 per hour. Intern will work 15-20 hours per week, depending on the intern’s preference. The scheduling of these hours during the week can be flexible.

Qualifications

 -Interest in environmental issues, specifically how they relate to social justice.

-Strong verbal and written communication skills, as intern will interact with outside vendors and clients.

-Self-motivated, but also works well with a team.

Blue Earth Social Media Intern

We are seeking a Social Media Intern to assist with our communications and outreach efforts. The internship is an opportunity to gain experience working with a nonprofit from a technological, social networking, and community organizing perspective. The intern will help promote Blue Earth’s mission via social media platforms, blog updates, e-mail newsletters and announcements, photographer outreach, coordinating project updates, and a small number of related tasks.

This is an unpaid internship with Blue Earth, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization based in Seattle. The position is expected to require roughly five hours per week, depending upon the efficiency of the intern, but time required is negotiable. The position will require telecommuting; applicants must be able to work remotely.

Duties

  • Assist with editing and producing content for various media channels, including our blog, Twitter, Google+, Facebook, newsletters, or other platforms
  • Assist with regular updates to our blog and social media feeds
  • Coordinate project news and updates from sponsored photographers
  • Seek new avenues for engaging with the broader photographic community
  • This position reports to the Executive Director and/or other Blue Earth representatives as assigned

Requirements

  • Excellent writing skills
  • Experience with social media platforms and applications
  • Ability to work independently, with sporadic supervision by Blue Earth staff
  • Reliability and willingness to adhere to general guidelines
  • Creativity and the ability to leverage our portfolio of projects to its best advantage
