Editorial Internships at Seattle Magazine

Editorial Internships at Seattle Magazine

Seattle magazine has immediate opportunities for editorial interns with excellent verbal and research skills. Interns gain hands-on experience, working closely with top editors in a creative, highly collaborative environment. As an intern, you will fetch no coffee. You’ll be an integral part of the team producing the only Northwest monthly that’s lasted 50 years. Enduring enthusiasm, curiosity and a love of the written word are essential prerequisites for the position. Attention to detail—even a perverse obsession with it—will come in handy. Your story ideas will get editors’ attention, and your bylines will proliferate quickly.

Interns help us bring up-and-coming Seattle trends home to our readers. Interns are the eyes and ears of the magazine. You will work on a wide range of projects, from the glamorous to the granular. You will learn all that goes into creating a magazine from start to finish. The internship will make you a published pro with terrific clips, a wealth of experience, and the confidence to pitch your ideas to the world.

No two internships are the same. To some extent, you will be given responsibilities based on your strengths and your initiative. Projects might include (but are not limited to): writing articles, fact-checking stories, helping with research on major projects, conducting interviews, attending events, researching story leads, and writing online articles.

Seattle magazine interns gain real-world experience, skills and mentoring, and go on to build successful careers. Past interns have landed jobs at Vanity Fair, Travel + Leisure, Lucky, Expedia, Cosmopolitan, Budget Living, Outside, Seattle Homes and Lifestyles, City Arts, Seattle Health magazine, Daily Candy, Sasquatch Books, Hugo House and Boise Weekly.

Internships require a commitment of four hours a day, five days a week for six months. Morning and afternoon shifts are available. Upon successful completion of the internship, interns receive a small stipend. We’re accepting applications now.
